At what age did your child start taking music lessons?

I am just curious. I started piano a few months before my 5 birthday and continued for 12 years. I just wanted to know–at what age (or developmental level) did your children start taking music lessons (also, what instrument)?

I was teaching my kids simple things like chords and scales at about 2 1/2 – 3 years old, on piano and less so guitar. They started doing proper lessons with their teachers at about 5. They all started off with piano and picked up things like guitar and vocals along the way.

What is the right age to start violin lessons?

My wife and & I are considering violin lessons for my 6 year old daughter. Is she too young to start playing? I began playing piano at 5 and hated it…6 years later, I was a mediocre piano player who still hated it.

6 is fine, but look for either a 1/2 or 1/4 size violin (good rental store will fit her properly) that sounds good.
Most important is her teacher. If she does not like the teacher she will not like the violin, unless she is one of those people who fall in love with music.

There are many good teachers who specialize in young children, so if your first does not work out, go elsewhere. It will be worth it.

Can you design your own characters on Rockband for Wii?

Everyone keeps telling me that on Rockband Wii you can design your own guitarists, give them cool hair and buy them clothes, however, I’ve read the entire instruction manual and fiddled around with it and cannot find out how to do it!
Anyone who has the game, please help me

Rock band 1 – No.
Rock Band 2 – Yes.

What is some good Cajun music that has fiddle and accordion in it?

I’m looking for Cajun music that has the fiddle and/or accordion with it like you hear in New Orleans or on Water Boy.

Wayne Toups, Swamp Pop Gold, Horrace Trahan, Tony Alleman just to name a few.

Why do so many people assume that Hilary wanted to play second fiddle to Obama?

I don’t believe for one minute that she wanted to be his vice president.
She wants to be president, not second in command. She will make another run, and may win.

Agreed. And what makes anyone think that Obama wanted a co-president and a third wheel hanging around the Oval Office all day? Because that’s what you would get will Hillary and Bill.

How difficult would it be to learn the fiddle if I only already know some guitar?

Is the fiddle hard to learn? Is anything about it similar to guitar?

As far as I know, both are read in the treble clef. Other than that, the fiddle is completely different. I’ve never played guitar, but I have minimal fiddle experience (I’m more of a classical violinist) and there are definite techniques to the fiddle that are unique to it. It’s difficult but once you get the hang of it and learn the techniques, you can play any fiddle song ever written.

are there any violin teachers near springfield, IL?

yeah i’m looking for a violin teacher somewhere near springfield, IL.

Well, it’s difficult for me to determine specifically.

I’d recommend you check the local Yellow Pages. If that fails, check online for a music store in your area, and call them up — they probably know of good area teachers. I guarantee there are at least a few people willing to teach; there are violinists everywhere.

Is it realistically possible to learn to play the violin well at age 40 with no previous musical experience?

I’ve always loved the sound of the violin and have been curious about learning to play it, especially in the style you hear in Irish music. That looks very difficult. So just wondering I guess if a relatively old dog could learn new tricks or if this is one of those things you have to learn in your fomative years.
Any example of people who have learned to play only later in life would be inspirational!

Yes, very possible, go for it. I learned to play the piano at a very young age and just recently (last year) was playing for some residents at the nursing home and my coworker was amazed, she is a 52 year old RN, she started taking lessons a few months later and she is doing quite well.

What kind of violin and bow should I buy?

I’ve been playing the violin for over six years now and I still don’t have my own violin!! (I have been using a county one) I would like to buy one and I have up to £700 to spend on the violin and bow so does any one have any suggestions on what type I should get?
Thanks!

I’ve been playing for about 8 years and have just bought a new violin,It’s called the Elysia Stenter and cost me around £400-£500 pounds, depending on where you get it from. It has a gorgeous, mellow sound and the wood patterning looks very professional.

You can also go to a violin store and buy a more older violin, because they say that the older a violin is the better the sound produced.

I had a student violin until this February, when I spent my money on my new violin, and it sounded alright but I needed a better one for my grade 7-8 exams, so I bought the Elysia Stenter and I love it.
