I think that teaching guitar would be the best job for me now. I would enjoy it and make good money. However, I wanted to know if I require any degrees or credentials to be a teacher. I’m 18 and I’m quite proficient at my instrument. Do I just put up ads or what? Also, would it be better to work in a music store instead?
Working on your own for teaching guitar doesn’t require any certification. However working for yourself requires work as you have to create advertising for yourself and basically draw business to you and until you establish a client base cash flow isn’t guaranteed where as if you did get a job in a music store you could at least guarantee a paycheck good business or bad. So its all just a matter of how much you want to take on.

If I wanna take violin lessons, should I know anything about violin before I take those lessons?
And also, how could I know everything about art and music? Any good websites or books?
While it isn’t necessary, knowing some extra information can’t hurt. However, don’t try to teach yourself to play violin before you take lessons- you can end up with some very bad habits that could create extra work for you and your teacher.
The best preparation is listening to lots of good players play a wide repertoire of violin music in lots of settings: orchestral, chamber (small ensemble), jazz and improvisation, fiddling, solo violin, etc.
I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to know everything about art and music.

does this guy like me in some how?
his name is travis. well we had to do this testing thing my whole grade (im in 11th) and we had assigned seats by our last names. well he ended up sitting at my table and i always thought he was cute & last school year him and his friends sat across from me and my friends in the cafe and they would always look and talk while staring at our table. and also when i see him once in a while when i walk to class we totally just stare at each from a distance. okay well anyway i was already sitting in my chair and then he saw his name on the paper on the table so he sat across from me & he said "hey" to me but i didnt look up or say anything to him i was kinda nervous & i didnt want to look stupid saying hi back lol. & yea whenever we are waiting for instructions from the teacher he will be jus fiddling with his pencil and whistling & looking around & making wierd grunting noises but i never would directly look at him. i would look around too but from the corner of my eye i see him looking at me when i look to the sides. he has a friend that sits a few tables from us and everytime he passes by he would look at me then he would slap trav on his chest and trav would follow him to the bathroom. i saw them walking back to the table together and they were talking and looking at me. but yea this is getting kinda long (sorry) but every time he goes to the bathroom his friend would follow and they would stay gone for a while & when he came back one time while we were waiting for instructions he coughed and i ended up looking at him and he smiled and nodded upward his head at me (the head thing guys do to say hi and i just smiled a small smile and looked down & started playing with my pencil ( i was really happy lol). okay the next day he comes and he smells really good his hair is gelled and he was dressed way nicer than he was the day before. he does the same things from yesterday(whistling, grunting, fiddling with pencil, going to the bathroom, friend follows etc) ok but this time while we were waiting his friend comes to our table and sits down by me & across trav. they start drawing on paper and talking about football. as i sat there i watched them draw then all of a sudden his friend hits him on the arm & right after he clears his throat & asks me with a little smile "oh so r u new to this school? or have u been here?" then i replied and then he asked the girl next to me and ya. he leaves for the bathroom again but his friend doesn’t follow this time he stays and tells one of his friends to sit by him and they start drawing. trav’s friend takes trav’s bag and tapes it together so he cant open it when he comes back from the bathroom he finds it taped and he asks me with a smile ""did u see who did this?" and i was like nodded my head side to side smiling lol. but of course he figures out his friends did it and then he was like "who caries around duct tape?"(cuz they used that kind of tape to tape his bag) and he was looking at me and smiling & after he takes off the tape he starts slapping his friend with it and laughing. oh & also whenever he was talking to his friends and i was looking at him while he was he would fidget, scratch his head, look down and take pauses between what he was sayin. after testing was done i put the pencil i was using down and he grabs it and he asks me "is this your pencil?" and i tell him "no" and he asks me if i wanted it but i said no. he kept it for himself even tho he had two other pencils(he left those on the table)
SORRY FOR THE LENGTH OF THIS. do u guys think i have a chance or should i just forget about him?
i jus need to kno cuz i think he’s reeaallly cute
thank you soo much for taking the time to read this novel of a question lol.
Haha, I was smiling the whole time I read this bc I’ve definitely had some of the same experiences. It is sooo OBVIOUS he likes you! I bet he talks to his friends about you all the time. You just have to decide whether he’s your type or not, bc although he’s so cute and funny now and can make you really nervous & stuff, you might find out later that you don’t really like the way he acts. But oh yeah gurly, you gotta chance if you wanna take it. The reason he’s acting like this is bc when you have a crush on someone, you do silly things to get their attention. Remember, though, most guys like a chase so keep doing what you’re doing & you’ll real him in in no time! Maybe one day soon you can get up the courage to have a conversation with him & figure out all the stuff he’s into. Don’t be shy or nervous, even if it’s hard not to be, bc he’s most likely feeling the same way. We all go through something like this, but good luck! He’s probably liked you for a looong time lol Hope I helped!
ps: Great details!

What is the main difference between fiddle and violin?
I’ve played violin since I was seven, but I’ve never really tried playing fiddle. What are the differences between the two? Are there many different techniques? Would it be difficult for an experienced violinist to try?
There is no difference between a violin and a fiddle.
However, classical violin playing has a broader technique than fiddle playing. A violinist must know various legato and staccato bow strokes, and using the bow to hide or exaggerate shifts of the left hand. The instrument must be supported so the left hand is free to play at many positions along the neck of the instument. This requires a chin rest and usually a shoulder rest or pad under the violin.
In fiddle playing, the left hand will seldom leave one position on the neck, e.g., it’s nailed in first position. For that reason, it is seldom necessary to have a shoulder rest or even a chin rest to play fiddle. Likewise, the bowing will not usually involve spicatto, martele, or long, lyrical passages. The fiddle bow grip is farther up on the bow, so the bouncing tendency is less and the fiddler will get a decent sound for a minimal fuss. Lastly, I understand that a fiddle is just not a fiddle unless it has about a month’s worth of white rosin on the top of the instrument. Violinists, those elite snobs, say that it should be cleaned off the top, that it will ruin the varnish.
What does it mean if you fiddle with things when you’re complimented?
If you compliment someone or praise them, they will immediately look down and avoid eye contact while they find something to fiddle with (like their hands, straw wrappers, etc).
What does this reaction / behavior mean?
It means they are shy, and any kind of attention, even a compliment, makes them feel awkward. Also, some people aren’t sure how to accept compliments gracefully. It feels embarassing.
How do I play dynamics on a violin?
I’ve started violin lessons two months ago and am doing my grade 3 exam in November.
Currently I am learning devil’s trill and I dont know how to add in any dynamics such as pp. How do I do this?
I cant ask my violin teacher as she is on hoilday lol Xd
Please help!!!!!!!
To play quietly (pp) tilt the bow towards you so that not as many hairs contact the strings. Then use as little weight from your right arm as possible.
To play loudly (ff) keep the bow flat against the strings and let gravity pull your bow arm down heavily. Also, try using pressure with your index finger on the bow.
Hope I helped!
where in chicago cani learn to play the violin and it won’t cost me an arm and a leg?
My 17 year old daughter who suffers from low self esteem issues would like to learn to play the violin. This is the 1st time that she has expressed a sincere desire pursue something of this magnitude because she is so full of self doubt that I would really like to see it happen for her. I am retired on disability so it would put a strain on my budget. That is why I need somewhere that she can go that is economical
What about asking at the music dept. of a local university or community college? If she took lessons from another student, the fee would probably be half (or even much less) of what you’d normally expect to pay.
I would encourage working with another person rather than trying to learn from online videos and such, because of the difficulty of mastering the bowing, fingering, etc., and because of the low self-esteem issue: praise from her teacher will be wonderful. And she won’t know if she’s doing things right unless a teacher tells her so.
A teacher will also recommend music that is just right for her ability level – so she won’t try something too hard and feel like a failure when she can’t master it.
You can also check the classified ads in the Tribune; see if someone wants to sell an instrument. Another place to look: instrument repair shops. They will have teachers’ names.
Best of luck to you both – violin isn’t the easiest of instruments, as you know, but what a great one to learn! Wish I had, many years ago.
What is the best violin brand or style to buy?
I’m looking to buy and I want to know what brand is the best to buy, as in the highest quality. Or, what’s the best style of violin to buy?
Also, what is the lowest one should buy for one?
A Stradivarius. They are Profoundly expensive, but worth every penny! You may pay over a million, but anything else is not the best.
