Violin playing – It is well with my soul – seeking advice / help

Hi! I’m new at playing the violin.. I already know guitar (which has helped me with fingering) and I play piano (so it’s easy for me to pick out stuff by ear).. but beyond this knowledge, the violin is foreign to me. I’m trying to teach myself how to play (can’t afford lessons) and I just feel like I’m doing something wrong.. if I am, I’d like to correct it before it becomes ingrained in me/ a habit.. so, this video has been uploaded SOLEY for the purpose of critiquing.. please, give me any advice that would be deemed helpful and constuctive.. and thank you for your time! -amberrose

Is 8th grade too late to learn how to play viola -> details inside?

so i’ve been playing violin for 6 years now, but i was thinking about switching to viola, because i think i’ll have a better chance of getting into a music college, like Juilliard, if i switch. I also like the sound of the viola better than the violin. would i be able to learn the viola pretty fast if i already know how to play violin (by fast i mean a couple years)?

Thanks!
