I played viola in H.S. but haven’t in 20 years. My husband bought me a viola for Christmas in the hopes that I could pick it up again. But I forgot how to read alto clef! Can you recommend a basic instruction book to get me going again?

For example. if i see a c note on the g string, i can only read it in view of the note being third finger on the g string. i fell into this habit for five years and never learned the correct way. Like learning a secondary language, i find it nearly impossible to learn the right way! Please give me tips to learn the correct way the fastest and most effectively.

I get the hang of it after it screeches. But I need some tips. I have to learn the viola in a month. I am good at pizz. but when I play with the bow I have to go slowly to get the notes. I only know the string D & A. Plus I know three notes on them. I just need to be able to play better.
I played the viola in elementary school for two years. I haven’t picked the instrument up for six years, and am going to a high school where i will be in an orchestra again. How hard will it be for me to have to re-learn everything and catch up to all the others when I haven’t touched my viola in six years? Also, will I need to buy a bigger viola, or can I still use the one that I had in elementary school? If I need to buy a new one, how much is that going to cost me?

Here’s the situation. I am 14 and starting high school in the Fall of 2007. I wanted to start learning the viola this summer. How hard and long would I have to practice if I wanted to enter an orchestra playing viola in college? Is it even possible? Is the time too short? I would like exact amount of time for things such as how long I should practice, not “a lot” or “very hard for a long time”. I would also VERY MUCH appreaciate it if you could give suggestions on what to exactly do.
yes, I do plan to take lessons. If I do join my high school’s orchestra, how many years will I need? Will I practice the same music as the other violas or easier music or just not play some of it or what is the situation?

I have been listening to viola works, I am actually listening to one right now. I haven’t bought a viola just yet. I would just like to play in the orchestra. I am not going to major in music, but I might minor in it! Is there any good youth orchestras inthe Los angeles area?
What size viola should I get? If it helps at all, my arm length (from shoulder to wrist) is exactly 2′. My hand length (from wrist to middle finger tip) is 7inches.
